Minecraft Servers

Could I use Antsle to Run a Minecraft server? If we can, do you have a tutorial? What requirements to host a Minecraft server with Antsle? And how could we install plugins into our server?

I'd start with https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Personal-Minecraft-Server

Part 1 is about making your server visible to the internet (which, in my mind, should be the after the server is setup, but what-evs)

Part 2 is about setting up the server on Windows

Part 3 is about setting up the server on a Mac

Part 4 is about setting up the server on Linux

Part 5 is about connecting to the server

On the antsle, you could create an antlet with one of these operating systems and use that as the "server" they describe in the instructions.

Since the antlse is Linux, I would recommend using one of the Linux LXC antlet templates, since (as I understand it), that allows the antsle to do the best resource management.  But if you're more comfortable with one of the other OSs, then you could set one of those antlets up.

Also I don't know the server OS affects the availability of plugins and mods.  It looks like (from my limited research) it's all Java-based (so should work on any OS), but also seems most things have handy installers for Windows, for convenience.

The Antsle docs describe several topics you'd need (creating the antlet, port-forwarding, etc).

Personally, I would NOT recommend installing it directly on the antsle (not using a virtual antlet) as that could complicate Antsle EdgeLinux upgrades (which seem delicate already, from what I've read on here).

When creating a server, keep in mind: this will open a loophole that will make it easier for attackers to gain remote access to your computer. But otherwise your server will not work for other players. So think about whether it's worth doing it yourself. Therefore, if I were you, I would hire professional specialists who do this and secure their laptop or computer, and directly their data and even security. It will be much easier for you to just buy these servers. This will make your task easier. Good luck and all the best!

Hi @richardwilliams

Thanks for the insight.

It's good to be mindful of any open ports and only open ones necessary for the task at hand.

Thank you for the tips in this thread! I was thinking about creating my own server too. However, now this task seems to be more difficult than I imagined. Also, it's not good that my friends will not be able to play without me or my PC on. And the security issues also stop me from doing that. So, I think I will just give it up and return to my favorite minecraft server list. It's good when someone has already done the job for you. Still, maybe I will return to this idea one day when I am older. Then the tutorials you provided will be really necessary for me. Thank you!

There is another option. Minecraft is a very large game with a huge user base. Naturally, the developers of the game Mojang AB and Microsoft have created a ready-made solution for creating a server - Realms. At the moment, it is available as a monthly subscription to Realms Plus and costs 7.99 USD. In addition, there is a bunch of texture packs, skins, and mashups, cloud storage, fifty worlds of Minecraft, as well as the simultaneous connection to the server for up to 10 players. In a pinch, why not just play on existing minecraft servers?

Hi @makarofors

Thanks for the link.

Some people like hosting their own Minecraft servers so they can control whose and what is on there.  Using an antlet for Minecraft servers works great.

For mobile platforms such as iOS and Android, they've got the functionality built-in for create games on your local area network.

I know the thread is a little old but I just wanna add that you can use Antsle to run a Minecraft server. Setting it up is quite straightforward, and there are tutorials available online to guide you through the process. You'll need a few key requirements to host the server successfully, such as a stable internet connection, ample RAM, and storage space.

If you need further assistance or have specific questions, don't hesitate to reach out. And if you're looking for more Minecraft-related content or cool mods, you should check out https://modbay.net/. It's a great platform with a wide selection of mods and resources for your Minecraft adventures!
