Upgrade behind proxy

I'm trying to run the upgrade behind a corporate proxy, and I can export http_proxy/https_proxy so that all of the file retrievals work, but I can't get the docker daemon to recognize the proxy to allow it to pull the new antlse/wetty image so the upgrade fails.

I've tried adding environment variables to /etc/default/docker and just about every other trick I can find but it still doesn't work.

Any suggestions on how to get the docker daemon to recognize the http proxies?

Thanks
