Add external storage
is this an option? I have two NAS devices that I I'd like to keep, is there a way to mount external storage?

It's Linux, so you can mount just about anything you can attach. For example, I've attached both a flash drive, and an external USB HDD in the past. Just handle them as you would any other removable media. You can create zpools for the new media too.
